Active Education’s outdoor education programs develop students’ knowledge, understanding and skills, and strengthen their sense of self, as well as building interpersonal relationships.
Our programs are managed by outdoor education experts and are underpinned by best practices in outdoor education. We apply Aust Adventure Activity Standards and Good Practice Guidelines to the planning & design, safety & risk management of our programs. On camp, our programs are delivered by facilitators with a range of experience and qualifications who are committed to you and your students having safe and fun learning experiences.
Our school camp packages and nature-based excursion and day programs provide opportunities for students of all ages to discover and explore the wonderful coastal, river, bushland and city environments of South Australia. Our goal is to instill in students an abiding appreciation and respect for nature, alongside a sense of wonder and curiosity to inspire them to explore and discover their world.
Our hope is that this sense of adventure and stewardship will remain with them when they become adults.
Our enduring mission is to create opportunities for every child and adult from every walk of life to participate in nature-based outdoor education experiences. Through our programs we encourage them to learn by doing, discover by experiencing and be challenged by choice.
Active Education’s story and the outdoor education focus of our school camp packages began in 1993 with Dave and Robyn Ellis. Dave Ellis was a teacher passionate about students having opportunities to apply learning from the classroom with hands-on learning in nature.
The next chapter for Active Education with Dave & Jules Parr began in 2007. Dave Parr has worked in the camping industry in SA for 40 years. He has a strong hospitality and customer service focus bringing ‘good food and good fun’ to Active Ed’s school camps and catering services.
Along the journey our close-knit team, now based at Aldinga Beach Campsite, has developed and consolidated the way we provide our school camp packages. Our experiences are structured to deliver professional, memorable, outdoor education experiences, customer service and hospitality to our school clients.
Now operating in its fourth decade Active Education has built a strong reputation as an industry leader in the provision of school camp packages and outdoor education experiences in South Australia.
Dave Ellis was a passionate advocate of students experiencing Aboriginal culture. Active Education has, from its very beginnings, involved First Nations instructors to share the living culture and heritage of the Aboriginal people. As a Barkindji woman Jules Parr is committed to partnering with Aboriginal cultural leaders to teach cultural knowledge, and to develop our Aboriginal Cultural Studies programs.
Over 300,000 students have participated in Active Ed’s Aboriginal Cultural Studies programs, predominantly on the culturally significant Kaurna country at Aldinga Beach. Additionally, our school camps and journeys operate on Ngarrindjeri, Peramangk, Narangga, Adnyamathanha and Boandik country.
