When should we go on Camp?
Best times of year to book a camp in South Australia
In past years, Terms 1 & 4 have been most popular times for School camps, but actually the secret some teachers are starting to realise is that terms 2 & 3 provide the most suitable times to have a camp if you take into account the weather, how busy the school calendar is in Terms 1 & 4 and many other factors.
So here is a quick overview of the school year and some of the pros and cons
Term 1 (Feb/Mar/April)
We find the best camps in term 1 have focuses on Group development & Leadership, Water Based adventure activities (incl: Kayaking, Surf Education & Aquatics) and Orientation Camps & Senior School Retreats
However Term 1 is becoming a logjam and it is becoming increasingly difficult to book the best campsites during late February through to the end of term. Also something to consider is the heat and increased fire risk when choosing Summer camps as many sites close on days of Catastrophic fire danger and it will impact on your camp program.
Term 2 (May/June)
No chance of that really hot weather!
With many of our campsites there is plenty of beautiful late Autumn scenery on display to enrich your students nature based camp experiences.
In terms of our programs the students are settled into the school yearso that you can make the most of our Educational & Curriculum Focused camps (Aboriginal Studies, Coastal Ecology, Environmental & Sustainable studies, Wind & Flight) .
Early winter is a great time on the beaches for Coastal Ecology as there is so many amazing marine treasures to be found at low tide!
With the the fire danger season ending 30th April your students are able to enjoy campfires and marshmallow toasting.
Term 3 (August/September)
Very similar program opportunities to Term 2 but with the spring weather starting it's a great time for Bushwalking/Camping and Environmentally focussed programs.
What about the wet weather I hear you ask ... Well it's time to chuck on warm clothes and a rain jacket but if it gets too wet our staff have many wet weather resources and activities up their sleeves and will continue to provide a quality educational program.
Term 4 (Oct/Nov/Dec)
Group development, Team FUNN, Local History, Water Based adventure activities (incl: Kayaking, Surf Education & Aquatics) are all programs that would suit your camp in Term 4 as they all can provide a great way to finish up and celebrate a year together.
Day programs and excursions provide another positive way to wrap up the year
In terms of the weather it is starting to heat up but those really hot days are a rarity.
Traditionally a busy time, so book in early due to popularity of camps at this time. Cool nights, warm days!
