4 Tips for a great school year!
1. Create a 'Classroom Contract'
In one of my Blogs over the next few weeks I will be talking about how a "Full Value Contract" (e.g Class Rules) helps facilitators (& teachers) easily set expectations for the group and their behaviors for the program or for teachers the year.
An easy to remember Full Value contract that we use at Active Education is the "5 Finger Rule" it is so simple but effective as uses the hand as an 'educational hook'

2. Introduce yourself to your New Students.
Got a new group of students? Why not take a little time to talk about your teaching career, why you love teaching and also tell them about your personal likes and dislikes this can start to make connections and start to break down barriers.
It may seem so simple but it can lighten the mood for the class and it's important for students to see you as a person and a teacher.
3. Save Time & Keep orgranised
As we all know with the busy workload of teachers anything that you can do to stay on top of the workload is beneficial. So what better way to start the school year by creating some new habits that will hopefully save you some time in the future.
These days there are so many helpful things on the net and here are just a few to help you get your year started
- Habitbull: An interesting smartphone App to help track your new habits available on Apple and Android
- Pinterest: A teachers dream where you can search, collect and collate ideas! Do yourself a favor and check it out if your not a member yet.
- Trello: If you are a fan of lists checkout Trello! It is a free, flexible, and visual way to organise your lists & it's mobile!
- Time Management: This motivating YouTube clip has some great ideas about time management and is well worth the time taken to watch it. (Note full video is 1hr Approx)
Low-Tech Hack: Always Leave a Clean Desk
Maybe it is just me, but I find that if I leave my desk a bit messy the day before, I already feel behind heading into the next day. Make a conscious effort to leave a note of things that need to be addressed, file away extra papers, and put all supplies away that may be cluttering up your desk (even if all you do is hide them in the drawer). It may take an extra 3 minutes but you will feel on top of things to start out each day!
